Sleep regression happens when a toddler who has been sleeping well suddenly changes the sleeping pattern. During the regression, the baby may resist to sleep, wakes up many times and after a short while, or take a longer time to fall asleep. Mostly, sleep regression occurs at age 3 or 4 months, age 9 or past one and a half years. What causes sleep 4 month sleep regression and how can a mother ease the situation?
At the age of 4 to 6 months, the baby has started noticing the things around him or her. The 6 month old napping schedule is interfered as the baby does not want to sleep, the toddler want to explore and play. The plays and exploration moments pushes the sleeping schedule ahead.
If it is watching cartoons or sitting with adults to play, the same can be scheduled in a manner that it will not interfere with toddlers napping time. Have a bath and massage before sleeping so that the toddler can relax and sleep well.
If the feeding schedule has been altered, sleep regression will also occur. If the toddler feeds earlier than he or she is used to, the baby might wake up at night, possibly due to hunger. The feeding schedule should be maintained to avoid sleep regression.
Change of diet can also cause the sleep regression. A 6 months old toddler has not been introduced to several types of foods. A 4 to 6 months old toddler feeds on formula or breast milk. A Change or introduction of formula milk might affect some toddlers, interfering with their digestion as well as sleep pattern. To curb the problem, change the diet on daytime or early morning, to be able to monitor the toddler.
Travelling and weather change can also lead to change in sleeping schedule of a 6 months old baby. They may completely refuse to nap during the day, and also not sleep well at night. Some even suffer from cold or flu which affects their sleeping ways. Avoid travelling with toddlers of this age, unless where need be.
